The first 7 transgender women murdered in 2017, most of them black.
South Dakota is working to put an anti-transgender bathroom bill before voters in 2018. South Dakota’s state hate crime laws do not include protections for sexual orientation or gender identity.
Under 45s administration, many states are doing the same, or seeking to put forth “religious freedom” laws that promise things like: the state government will not punish people who refuse to provide services to people because of a religious opposition to same-sex marriage, extramarital sex, or transgender people.
It’s only barely three months into 2017.
#SayHerName because so many people refuse to do that when it comes to trans women especially, and when laws are passed that say trans women are male and must use the men’s bathrooms, or when laws are made that deny trans people from getting the health care that they desperately need, trans women who get murdered end up being misgendered or completely erased.
